The Merchants House Guest House and Licensed Restaurant is situated on the shore of Loch Ryan, approximately ½ mile north of the P&O ferry terminal in Cairnryan. The Merchants House is a traditional property, situated on the A77 in the original part of the village, which dates back to 1701. Over the years, the Merchants House has been the village shop and post office, an antique shop and a tearoom. Today, we have a 20-cover restaurant and a coffee shop/bar on the ground floor. We have three well appointed and comfortable letting bedrooms on the first floor, 2 family rooms with en-suite facilities overlooking Loch Ryan and a further double room with shared bathroom overlooking the garden. We have a very varied menu of freshly prepared, home cooked meals, which are served in our licensed restaurant. Our bar and coffee shop compliment the restaurant offering weary travellers a place to enjoy a cup of coffee or an alcoholic beverage. A wide range of snacks, baking etc are also available in the coffee shop. The Merchants House is open 6 days a week (Wed - Mon) from noon until late. The Merchants House has been under the same ownership since 1996.
RESTAURANT AND COFFEE SHOP/BAR
The Merchants House restaurant is open from noon daily (closed Tuesday), with last orders generally being taken at 9.30pm, although we are happy to cater for guests a little later, by prior arrangement. Our 20-cover restaurant has views over Loch Ryan to Wig Bay. We offer a wide range of freshly prepared, home cooked meals, using local produce where possible. A small selection of our starters include home-made soups, pate, garlic mushrooms and home-made fishcakes.
A small selection of our main courses include home-battered haddock, home-made steak or steak and kidney pie, home-made curries, chilli con carne, a selection of salads, several vegetarian options, fresh fillet of salmon in our home-made white wine and parsley sauce and 10 oz sirloin steak garni. We have a special board offering a variety of home cooked starters, main courses and desserts, which change daily.
Our coffee shop and bar are open the same hours as the restaurant but offers a wide variety of snacks, baking, teas and coffees, in addition to the main menu. A small selection of snacks on offer would include a bowl of home-made soup, served with crusty bread, sandwiches, toasted sandwiches, filled baguettes, filled paninis etc. The bar area is small but nonetheless well-stocked with a range of malt whiskies, wine list and all the usual alcoholic beverages and soft drinks
